Ethical Wildlife Photography
A great photograph is never worth disturbing an animal. Principles for photographing tigers responsibly.
The animal always comes first. No image justifies pressuring a driver to move closer, block a path, or crowd a tiger attempting to cross a road.
Keep noise to a minimum. Conversation, shutter bursts and engine revving all register. A quiet vehicle sees more, not less.
Never bait, call or play recordings. Never ask your guide to break forest department rules on your behalf — it endangers their livelihood as well as the wildlife.
Respect other travellers. Traffic jams around a single tiger are stressful for the animal and unpleasant for everyone; a good naturalist will often choose to leave.
Finally, be honest about your images. Caption them accurately, disclose captive or heavily manipulated shots, and use your photography to advocate for the forests that made it possible.
